Answered: Why is honesty important?

Honesty is important in learning and maturing as a person.

We can actually put honesty in two different ways, honest to yourself and honesty with other, though I would argue that either way it is still about being honest to yourself. Anyway, being honest to yourself is the key to self-growth and learning as a person. If you fall off a bike or fail a test you didn’t study, you could either blame the bike for being two-wheeled or the test for being too difficult. Being honest to yourself would mean you understand that you are not trying hard enough on the bike and that you fail the test because you didn’t study for it. Not being honest makes you close your mind not and not trying to improve yourself. That trust you build to yourself will in turn build confidence to win in life. You understand how to conquer that fear of failing and you end up a better person.

Then we have the honesty to others. Honesty keeps everything going. It’s what keeps the economy going. The chain of trust is created by contracts that lead from materials to be delivered to the shop shelves. You can’t be dishonest to others and expect them to be honest to you. People have this strange sixth sense to liars. You can only deceive them so much. Honesty is probably most important in business and relationship in this case. Keeping your promises would build your credibility, that way you earn people trust. It just takes one dishonest act that will destroy it all. However, do not mistake honesty as being open. It is about building people respect on the real you. That real you are based on how honest you ever will be, whether in how you told your “white lie” in order to not hurt others. Knowing how to be honest is just important to be able to relate with people.

Answered: Why did the US bomb Japan?

Another reason (lesser known and certainly less noble) can be found for why did the US bomb Japan: they needed to demonstrate their new found power to the Soviet Union. By 1945, the Soviets and the United States were already at odds and deeply suspicious of each other. The Russians were occupying a lot of Eastern Europe and so the US needed an ace up their sleeve. The atom bomb was their trump card. Many believe the bombing of Japan was actually what started the Cold War.

Answered: Why do people immigrate?

My husband was born in Mexico and he immigrated here, not because he disliked Mexico, but because it’s not a rich country and he wanted to do better than his father did. He told me that his father worked in the fields while his mother took care of the kids, so he rarely saw his father at all. When he did, he was tired or drunk, and not very caring. My husband wanted to be different from his father. He wanted to provide for his family, keep them well fed, and live the “American Dream”. What’s funny is that life isn’t much different here. We make more money, but we spend more money as well. I think it goes back to that old saying, “the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence”, or in my husband’s case, the other side of the river. I’m sorry if that is offensive to anyone, I put that in for my husband, although he technically didn’t cross a river.

Why do people immigrate? Wish my story can answer this question.

Answered: Why is child labour a problem?

No matter what kind of restrictions are in place, if a child is working that means that they are taking time and focus away from school or at least homework. So why is child labour a problem? Because many of these children are denied the opportunity of full-time, quality education that helps them not only become successful adults but escape poverty. So even if they are working because they live in poverty, taking away their education just means that their life of poverty will continue not get better.

Answered: How to prevent water pollution?

Good suggestions above! I’d also add that if you do want to occasionally use a pesticide/herbicide, you should plant out your garden more densely first. That way, the amount of runoff that occurs after rain will be minimized. Also, if you try and conserve water whenever possible, this actually contributes towards preventing water pollution. This is because the more fresh water we have in reserve, the less contaminated water we need to treat and use. And last (but certainly not least), make sure you don’t litter. If you’re down the beach and your chip packet blows away, chase after it, don’t just let it blow away.

Answered: Why did Leonardo da Vinci paint?

Well, you have to know that Leonardo da Vinci was born illegitimate: his father, a wealthy and notable government official in Medici-ruled Florence, had a tryst with a peasant girl, who became Leonardo’s biological mother. Because of his status, Leonardo had no hope to serve the Medici administration as his father did. And he didn’t have a chance to receive university education, either, which meant, among other things, that he could hardly read Latin, in which most scholarly literature at that time was written.

In helping him choose his profession, Leonardo’s father reasoned that since he had showed a precocious and clear talent for drawing, he might well have a future there. So at the age of 14, Leonardo da Vinci was sent to the workshop of a famous artist in Florence. And that’s how he started his career in art.

Hope I have answered your question of why did Leonardo da Vinci paint.

Answered: Why do immigrants come to America?

Just like you hear about job opportunities being more abundant in America, there’s more widespread education than in many countries. Immigrants come to America in order to pursue higher education in our system that provides a wide variety of options to suit all kinds of needs. There’s a college for everyone here, between public, private, large, small, liberal, or even online. Another educational reason for the immigration is that there’s a better base educational system here in general. Some people might be trying to better their children’s lives by living somewhere that they can have better education access.

Answered: Why do brides wear garters?

The tradition of wearing the garter during weddings is believed to be one of the oldest wedding practices that has survived up to this generation. There are two theories that explain the origin of wedding garters and why they are still in vogue after such a long time:

This practice can be traced back to the 14th century when English wedding guests believed getting a piece of the bride's clothe will bring them some kind of luck. To preserve her wedding dress, the brides started throwing their wedding garters at male guests. Some male guests attempted tearing the garter from the bride's leg. To preserve the dignity of their new wives, the grooms started removing the garter and throwing them to the single male guests.

Another English tradition about the wedding garter that dates back to ages ago had the male wedding guests stalking the new couple into their inner chambers. They threw old stocking at the newly wedded couple and the single male whose discarded stocking hung on the nose of either the bride or the groom's nose is believed to be the next in line for marriage.

Most brides today wear two garters during their wedding. One for keeps and one for kicks. They wear both garters on their right leg. The groom used to remove one of the garters with his teeth, but this is no longer the practice. It is now considered most appropriate for the groom make use of his hands while removing the garter. He then throws the garter to all the single male guests. Whoever gets the garter first among the single male guests is believed to be the next groom in the block.

Answered: Why do gay guys talk funny?

Here’s a study that I know which may answer your question why do gay guys talk funny. But a reminder, “funny” is not fun to use when referring to the way that gay people talk.

Two psychologists from Ohio State University conducted a study and discovered that 75% of the time people could determine which male speakers were gay by listening to them speak. In this study, however, instead of just having the subjects say whole words they each pronounced one letter of a word at a time. The first two letters were consonants and listeners could not determine the sexual preference of the speaker. The third letter was a vowel and that’s when listeners got really accurate. The conclusion is there is something about the way gay males pronounce their vowels that is different than the way heterosexual males say the same vowels.

Erik C. Tracey, the lead author of the study says they are not sure what that difference is but listeners seem to hear it and use that acoustical difference to make their judgement call.

Most gay males are not as blatant in their voice mannerisms as the media often presents them to us, yet it seems some slight difference in speech patterns maybe exist between heterosexual and homosexual males. Oddly enough, there is no empirical evidence that the same difference occurs between heterosexual females and lesbians.

Nobody can really say he or she has the right answer to that question because every killing and every killer is quite unique.
Answered: Why do Catholics eat fish on Friday?

Just like you, I was curious about this too, so why do Catholics eat fish on Friday? This is what I learned from Wikipedia. Back in the days when Jesus walked the earth, it was not always safe to admit publicly that you were a Christian. Instead, believers would draw a symbol of a fish in the dirt so they could identify themselves to other Christians. They chose the sign of the fish for a couple different reasons. Most of Jesus’s disciples were fishermen. It is also the food that Jesus fixed for them on the day of his resurrection. To true believers it is representative of them as ‘fishers of men’ to draw others into the Christian faith. So, for those reasons, they chose to give up meat and eat fish on Fridays ito honor their Savior’s death on that day of the week.

Answered: Why do black men have bigger willies?

Fortunately for you, bigger willies on black men is just a myth, at least in the USA and EU anyway. There are no actual studies done on the sizes of willies if the blacks have larger ones in comparison ethnicities and races. Size is relative to anyway, man being man wants theirs to be seemingly big. It is a myth made popular by pop culture and such.

In the USA, African descendant have more than not bred with the Caucasians, so average size is the same for blacks and whites. Since black man is bigger in height in general, the consensus becomes them having bigger willies as well. It could be because they are still more likely to come from the lower income, the myth of their size got spread around to compensate for the fact that they are poor. The stereotype persisted with no real basis. I mean, why would they ever try to debunk it? Then pornography comes along and once again presents them with overly huge sizes as the average. Probably the myth of bigger willies started to spread around by white woman who did the taboo thing of having intercourse with a black man since it is more exotic and bestial in a sense. Then rumours spread around how a black man can satisfy a woman better, with the legacy persisting till today. There you have it, black men don’t have bigger willies, it is just a myth. If it is true, then the size is probably not significantly bigger and rather born out of a racist tale.

Answered: Why are Americans so stupid?

The higher obesity rate in the United States gives people the idea that Americans are stupid and lazy. No not all Americans are fat, but there’s a larger percentage of obesity in America than almost every other country. Obesity is linked to a lack of physical activity, which is perceived as laziness, and laziness just gives off the impression of stupidity. Basic health and well being seems like a pretty simple concept.

Answered: Why guns should be banned?

There are multiple reasons that guns should be banned according to liberal lawmakers. Statistically speaking, gun bans seem to lower violent crime rates in highly populated areas. However, those statistics appear to be wrong when you hear about the violent crimes that are committed even with a ban on guns already in place. Just because there are laws in place controlling gun doesn’t necessarily mean that you will stop gun violence completely. Many liberals will argue that when you make something illegal, it will completely disappear and no longer be an issue.

However, many of us in today’s society know that this isn’t the case by simply looking at the war on drugs. Even though drugs are illegal, it doesn’t necessary mean that they aren’t available. If a person wants something bad enough, they will find a way to get it.

There have also been discussions regarding the second amendment and what it means in today’s society. Back when it was written, it is suggested that they were simply talking about muskets and that there was no way of knowing that more violent, high powered weapons would be introduced into society. Guns should be banned for no other reason other than they are dangerous to society as a whole and if placed in the wrong hands can have deadly consequences.

Answered: How to talk to strangers

One of the best ways of how to talk to strangers is by asking for help or for an opinion. This can work to your advantage in any situation or setting. It’s innocent enough for the other person to not feel awkward in answering or talking to you about it. You’ll also know immediately if that person actually wants to talk to you or not because they’ll either respond very abruptly and close the conversation or show interest in talking more. If you can add some humor to the situation, that makes everyone even more comfortable and breaks the ice.

Answered: Why was the Great Wall of China built?

The main purpose of building the Walls of China was to keep both people and territory protected from any kind of invasion.

The Great Walls of China coupled with the Beacon Towers, fortification, passes, etc. instituted a very massive defensive system that provided the Chinese society with a very peaceful and safe environment. There were several states during the autumn and spring period, as well as the Warring States Period, so separate sections were built as a defense system against the nomadic northern tribes.

During the Qin Dynasty, the major role of the wall was to keep the country protected very nomadic tribe. During the reign of the Western Han Emperor Wu, a significant role was played by the wall in providing protection for the main force and also served as a strong military base during the wars. Whenever the country subdued any new region, the Wall was usually extended to strengthen the local army. The Han Dynasty was able to conquer more and more territories in north-western China with the aid of the Great Wall. General Qi Jiguang during the Ming Dynasty fortified the regions from Shanhaiguan Pass all the way to the Juyongguan Pass by constructing some military watchtowers and then qualified soldiers based on their local landform to conquer invasions. Additionally, the Wall stopped the emigration of Chinese citizens.

Answered: Why immigration is good?

“THEY TOOK OUR JOBS!” you yelled. NO! Technically they do take our jobs, but that is mostly from your own baseless concern that they took so much of the job that you have difficulty finding one. Immigration actually increases the number of jobs for the locals. Immigrants spend money, making the businesses more profitable, which means more work for everyone. Immigrants are considered to be more entrepreneurial, starting their own shops and businesses, hiring employees, often paying higher than the native counterparts. Then again, if you lose a job to someone with no connection or anything to their name when they migrate, with a communication skill that is less proficient that the locals, you probably deserve to lose that job.

Answered: Why do monks shave their head?

Yeah, so why do monks shave their head… We’ll look at the Buddhist practice for the general understanding of it since reasons for religious tradition is often similar to others. The head shaving is symbolic in the way that it means you are letting go all of your material attachments and that self-obsessing ego. In tradition, only the ones pursuing to be a priest or monk would undertake the shaving. From a friend I had from Thailand, being a monk is about discipline. To be a Buddhist is a serious business there. You would need to memorize chants and religious scriptures just to join, then get used to the monk way of living, which means only eating once a day at the set amount of time, then praying for the rest of the days, teaching or cleaning the temple grounds. Imagine military regiment but for religion, it is what it basically is (both required head shaving too). In modern times, it’s the discipline and the symbolism that you will live your normal life in comfort to pursue spiritual happiness.

Answered: Why should gay marriage be legal?

Here are 8 essential reasons I concluded from many sites why gay marriage should be legal:

The Constitution of the United States shows that our ancestors were committed to both liberty and equality. Not allowing same-sex couples to marry actually goes against our original foundation of equality and liberty. It is actually unconstitutional to deny any legal citizen this foundational right!

Prohibiting same-sex marriage is pure discrimination. People are allowed rights as equal citizens in any other area of life. Pornography and adultery (including “swingers”) is considered fine and ok but not two adult people who are committed to each other to marry, is not? Absolute discrimination. The nation tries to teach against bullying, but in another breath teaches people that intolerance and discrimination is ok. That sounds a bit sideways to me.

Many people believe that marriage should be defined as a union between a man and a woman; this is the way a traditional marriage has always been defined. This has not always been so. Historically, different cultures have defined marriage in their own ways. Even in the bible, it casually discusses harems. Having many wives is considered an abomination in today’s society but I would bet that if some who oppose gay marriage were to look into their ancestry, they would find even more “abomination” in their own history!

The realization of “marriage” has constantly been redefined through the ages. In some cultures, marrying a woman who had been previously divorced was considered an abomination. Now, we eagerly accept this as normal. Society changes as needs change. This is no different in the area of same-sex marriage.

If two people love each other and want to be married, they should be able to reap the benefits of marriage. This includes benefits such as medical insurance, inheritance, life insurance, and other protections physically and financially. Straight couples allowed to marry enjoy these benefits. Why should same-sex couples be discriminated against?

Good for the economy. Homosexual couples still want to raise children, whether they are their own biologically or adopted. There are so children in the foster care system that could use good, caring parents. It is very hard to adopt when you are a single parent. If those in the LGBT community were allowed to marry, more would be allowed to adopt, leaving less children being cared for by foster care, or governmentally provided shelters. Also, when people work together towards a common goal (life), they spend more and usually have less likelihood of needing governmental assistance. Family homes, vehicles, insurance policies, clothing, antibiotics, everything. Even the act of getting married could help financially. Weddings are expensive, and the government would obtain more funds when a couple applies for, and pays for, marriage licenses!

What other people do should not affect you! If you don’t like it, you don’t do it. Just that simple. If you don’t want children, you don’t have them. If someone else does, good for them, that is their choice and their right! If you don’t want to homeschool your children, you don’t do it. If you don’t want to worship a God, you don’t do it. Plain and simple: what other people decide to do with their lives do not have to affect you in anyway whatsoever.

And the 10th, and final, and most important thought on this subject: The United States no longer has to worry about it! As of this year, 2015, the Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage is now legal in all 50 of the United States of America!!!

REFERENCE: http://www.usnews.com/debate-club/should-gay-marriage-be-legal-nationwide

Answered: Why did Russia enter WWI?

Why did Russia enter WWI? The answer may be a little complexed.

Worried that Germany could be a menace to its land, Russia’s entrance into World War I was a measure to stop the geographically lesser nation from encroaching on its borders. Seven years before the war, Russia allied with France and Britain in response to the establishment of the Triple Alliance, which consisted of Italy, Germany, and the empire of Austria-Hungary.

When World War I started, commander of the Russian Second Army General Alexander Samsonov invaded Prussia, the Eastern domain of Germany, entering from its southwest border. His objective was to meet Russian General Paul von Rennenkampf at the center of the province, as the other General was approaching from the northeast.

Although the Russian Army was the largest in the world at that time, Germany’s inferior railways and streets made it difficult to invade. Before they could make much progress, German soldiers overtook the Second Army. Just 10,000 of the 150,000 Russian soldiers were able to escape; most of them were either executed or held as hostages. General Samsonov was shattered by the defeat and committed suicide.

One year into the war, Russia, which did not have enough munitions for its sizeable army, had lost two million of its 6.5 million soldiers. Belorussia, Kurland and Lithuania were also taken.

By March of 1918, while German troops were advancing on Petrograd, Germany’s leader, Vladimir Lenin ordered the army’s leader Leon Trotsky, to sign the Brest-Litovsk Treaty. The treaty stated that Russia chose to surrender Poland, the Ukraine, the Caucasus, the Finland, and the Baltic provinces.

Answered: Why do people shoplift?

Ummm, why do people shoplift? I think because they are selfish. Instead of going out and getting a real job where they make real money they steal. No matter what anyone says about it, shoplifting is not something that is fun nor would it be a way to relieve any sort of stress. How can you be relieving stress from shoplifting? You would constantly be worried about getting caught by the police. Why would anyone want a criminal record hanging over their head just so that they can get a rush from shoplifting? People don’t steal because they want the rush, they steal because they don’t have the money to buy their own items. At no time is it okay to steal. Ask for help if you are so desperate that you feel the need to shoplift something. Store owners work hard to make money so when a person steals from them they are essentially losing money to help feel their own families. It is never okay to shoplift and there most certainly is no excuse for it!

Answered: Why does God allow suffering?

Is there anything God may want us to learn from these agonizing events? I believe there is. We learn empathy for others who suffer. We learn to help in whatever way we can even if prayer is all we can offer. We figure out how to work together to overcome catastrophes. Compassion is an invaluable lesson discovered through donating food, clothing, money or time to help those in need, sitting next to a sick family member holding their hand, or letting a broken hearted friend weep in your arms.

Another point of view is that suffering encourages us to turn to God. Many people forget to pray when all is well but rather it only occurs to them when they are in need and it reminds them how much they need Him in their lives.

Questions like why does god allow suffering are those questions we’ll probably never know the answer to. In my mind, perhaps we are not supposed to understand…well, at least not in this life.

Why are my pupils always so big? Overly-dilated pupils can be caused by excess brain hormones (like dopamine) being released. This can be naturally occurring or can be a side effect (intentional or unintentional) from certain drugs that interfere with the normal brain function. I would consult with your doctor but I haven’t seen many reasons for this that are a bad thing.

Answered: Why do people take drugs?

Why do people take drugs? People who use drugs do so because they wish to remove their minds from realities around them. A good example is a man with a very stressful family and work life; such a man would always want to take some nights out with friends to get high on booze and drugs. The night parties help such people forget the several problems plaguing them at home and in the office for some time. Of course, this escape is to give them rest of mind for that moment and help them forget the problems they can't handle immediately since they are issues they plan to resolve in the future. If the reason for getting high is not to remove the problems from one's mind until when it can be conveniently tackled, then the booze becomes a very irresponsible act.

Things get out of hand when someone battling issues like stress or depression, starts using drugs more often and it becomes an addiction. This is the point people who advocate for no drug use make. Another very important point to note is that drugs can cause depression and mood swings. Yet, several people manage to escape these negative effects of drug use by adopting more disciplined drug use approaches.

Answered: Why do people throw rice at weddings?

I wondered about this curious custom, too, when I attended my first wedding as a child and watched grownups pelt the bride and groom with handfuls of uncooked rice. I thought it was a really weird thing to do. After all, I got yelled at if I threw food. When we got in the car and headed home I asked my parents what the rice throwing was all about. They explained it simply as a tradition that symbolized warm wishes that the newly married couple would always have an abundance of the things they needed in life, like food.

I didn’t think about it anymore until years later when I was planning my own wedding. That’s when I did some research.

Apparently the tradition of people throw rice at weddings to newlyweds began in ancient Rome. As it turns out, my parents really weren’t far off the mark. It was done to wish the bride and groom good luck, fertility, and plenty in their future life.

Other countries have thrown different items at newlyweds, but food and seeds have always been favorites. Wedding guests in Morocco gather round to toss raisins and figs at the couple to ensure a fruitful union. In France it’s wheat, in Italy sweetened nuts and candies, and in some other European countries, they even throw eggs at the newlyweds.

Today preferences have turned to throwing birdseed or blowing bubbles, but the symbolism is the same. It’s all a way of wishing the newly joined couple a bright and prosperous future. I personally think bubble blowing is the gentlest way to shower the bride and groom. I can tell you from experience getting smacked in the face with raw rice stings and you’ll spend hours trying to pick all the grains from your hair and out of your clothing.

Answered: Why is Mona Lisa so famous?

Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa is the most notable painting in the world, one that held such a high cultural significance. Its viewing attracted hordes of tourists from all countries every single day, securely displayed behind a thick bullet-resistant glass, and the room it’s placed in covered by cameras at all possible angles. No one knew for sure why the painting Mona Lisa is so famous and renowned either. The one usually cited is the smile of the Mona Lisa. Mystifying, enigmatic half-smile that have its meaning debated over the history. Some attribute it to Leonardo da Vinci’s sexual attraction to his mother, other describe it as innocent and inviting. Science has even tried to formulate why the smile itself is interpreted so differently by everyone, from the dynamic of the sitting position to the distance of the mouth and eye.

Then why is Mona Lisa so famous exactly? Actually, the painting does not receive the recognition she has today since its inception. While the painting has always been highly esteemed, owned by the lords and emperors of the old France kingdom, its international prominence only surfaces later. Walter Pater’s 1867 Leonardo da Vinci essay raised the popularity of the painting, turning it into a phenomenon, a painting Pater described as a cryptic beauty. The writing itself become the most well-known art criticism in the world. 50 years later in 1911, a Louvre museum employee, where the painting still resides until today, stole the painting off the wall. The theft became a major event that brought back the significance of Mona Lisa to the modern culture. Two years later, the culprit was caught attempting to sell the piece to Florence’s Uffizi museum, second famous after Louvre. Now the painting returned to where it belongs, it now attracts more crowd and studies than before, making it the most famous painting in the world. Almost a century later, the painting continues to retain its glory, undeserving to many, or an overly extensive publicity to others.

I just watched Pearl Harbor by Michael Bay. Decent movie I guess. Makes me wonder, though, why did Japan attack Pearl Harbor? It seems like a rash decision on their part. Did they not expect the atomic bomb drops? Then again, no one expects it to be so effective. I mean, America was one of the superpowers of that time who decide that they wanted nothing to do in the war in Asia as far as I know. The only reason I can think of why Japan would do so is just to show off their power, that didn’t go as well as they thought. Why did they launch an assault on Pearl Harbor?

I’ve got a bit of a delicate situation, but feel like I really need some advice. My partner and I have been together for 11 years now and we have 2 small children. Since the birth of our youngest child, I haven’t been able to get back to work and my partner is feeling the financial strain of trying to support our family. He has also had to deal with stresses at work and the death of a family member. My partner is a good person and an excellent parent, but he has been under a lot of strain and it has started to manifest itself in what I believe is verbal abuse. The smallest things can set him off, yelling at me and criticising me. Let me be clear – I love my partner and I want to support him through this difficult time. I want to rebuild and repair our relationship. But I also need to be better equipped to deal with the verbal abuse. So how to deal with verbal abuse? I’d like to be able to diffuse the situation before it gets out of hand.

Why did ancient Egypt mummify their dead?

I am always intrigued by the idea of mummies, the idea that the ancient people would take so much of their time to wrap the dead ones to bury. Maybe it’s not as much different to our funeral rites these days. Why mummify them? Isn’t having them buried so much more convenient and yet, still in its own way, respectful?

How to be a better communicator?

My boss recently told me I needed to work on my communication skills. She said I’m not “engaged enough” (or something like that) when I’m dealing with customers and colleagues. I didn’t think I was that bad at communicating, but I asked a few friends and they all laughed and said I was terrible! I like my job and I don’t want my lack of communication skills to jeopardize my future with the company. But I’m also not show how to improve, so how to be a better communicator?

Why did Australia join WW1?

Other than their obligation as part of the British Empire then, is there any real benefits for Australia in fighting in the WW1? They were still a new nation and geographically isolated from where the main conflicts were. They also weren’t involved in the events that lead to the war in the first place. Why did they find the need to take part in it?

How to make people laugh

I just moved to a new school where I don’t know anyone, and I’m not very good at making new friends or starting conversations. The most popular kids or the ones everyone always wants to talk to are the funny kids in class, and telling a joke seems to get a lot more attention than asking someone about themselves. I want to be one of those funny kids in class but I never know what to say. Any tips on how to make people laugh?
