How to cut up a pineapple

This is going to sound so stupid, but…how do you cut up a pineapple? I’ve been asked to bring a “tropical fruit platter” to a baby shower I’m attending next week. I assumed this meant throw a few grapes, mangoes and a bit of watermelon on a plate, but this was met by cries of “oh you have to have a pineapple”, “everyone loves pineapple”, “but only when it’s cut properly”, “yes it’s terribly when it’s not cut properly”, “or when then just used horrible tinned stuff”. Now, personally, I love tinned pineapple. But apparently I’m in the minority. And apparently there is a correct and an incorrect way of cutting a whole pineapple. I’ve never bought a whole pineapple before and I am not sure how to cut up a pineapple correctly. Please help!

Why do we need carbohydrates?

So from what I have come to learn so far, carbohydrates are really important for our body. I have no idea important in what way. I grew up without knowing it, but I just know I need to have the main bulk of my meal to be carbohydrates, which are bread or grain products. So why do we need carbohydrates? Why is carbohydrate important while it sitting at the bottom of the food pyramid?

Why does Swiss cheese have holes?

Is it mice nibbling through the big wheel of cheese? I grew up watching “Tom & Jerry”. I had that impression since I was young that a mouse like Jerry would munch into the cheese and makes these tiny rooms. All that somehow helps to develop the flavor and gives the signature look. I know that sounds dumb, so I would like to know what actually form these holes in Swiss cheese?

How to make pizza at home

I’m baby-sitting for my little cousins next week and they’ve asked if we can make homemade pizzas. Of course I don’t know how to make homemade pizzas from scratch! So I need some suggestions on how to make pizza at home (preferably from scratch, but without it being too difficult!)
Why are my cookies flat?

The last two batches of cookies I made (oatmeal and gingersnaps) were duds. Both cookies come out looking either flat or thin. This is something I have never experienced before and I wonder if anyone can help me identify the cause of this problem. I found a recent cookies recipe online with several people commenting they used it and their cookies were better than ever. So why did mine come our flat and thin? Anyone with an idea about why this happens?

Why do I get sleepy after I eat?

There is nothing that I enjoy more than a home cooked meal. It makes me feel like I’m at home again. But I always seem to want to go straight to bed after I eat. Why do I get sleepy after I eat? I can function just fine during the day while I’m at work and not feel like I need to take a nap. However, when I’m at home I seem to want to run straight to my bed after a good meal.

Hello friends! I'm preparing for a Vietnamese feast this night and I would like to know how to cook rice noodles, and which technique is better-soaking your rice noodles in some cold water for about 30 minutes before cooking or boiling them right away without soaking?

Thank you!

Why are Moscow mules in copper cups?

I love the Moscow mule! The kick from vodka, spiciness of ginger beer with a refreshing aftertaste of lime. It’s a great cocktail. I want to know why is it the Moscow mule always served in a copper mug. What kind of tradition brings it to the now classy way of serving a cocktail? To keep the drinks cold? Then why isn’t other cocktail served the same way?
