I don't enjoy the taste of pork, that's why I don't eat it. I have heard often that Muslims do not eat it either. I'm not a Muslim, so I can't say why they don't or can't eat pork. If anyone knows the answer please let me know.

Why can't Muslims eat pork? In short, eating port is forbidden by God and the law is recorded in Quran.

One thing the Muslim man or woman does not want to do is to disobey God. One rule Muslims never break is that eating pork or any pork product is strictly prohibited. And Muslim does nothing but endeavor to live by God's rules and principles at all times.

One might want to question the possible harm that can come from eating pork, since it is an accepted source of protein in many countries - one thing that easily comes to mind as a reason why one would want to abstain from eating pork is the fact that it contains certain disease-causing parasites. This, however, becomes a very secondary reason when you start analyzing the reason why Muslims are not permitted to eat pork. Simply put, Muslims neither eat pork nor any other pork product because God forbids them from doing so.

According to the Quran 2:173,

“He has forbidden you only dead animals, and blood, and the swine, and that which is slaughtered as a sacrifice for other than God.” (Quran 2:173)

We may not be able to comprehend why God would approve of certain things and prohibit others. No specific reason was given in the Quran for the prohibition of pork except what is contained in Quran 6: 145 when God referred to the flesh of pig as impure. A Muslim never needs to question the reason for the divine order. Furthermore, God has made it quite clear that a believer is he that hears the words of his God and obeys his rules without questions.

According to Quran 24: 51,

"we hear and we obey." These are the people that will inherit the paradise and live in it forever.

According to Quran 33: 36,

"When God and His Prophet give a decree, the believers have no option in their decision. And whoever chooses to disobey God and His Prophet; has deliberately strayed into the path of error."

A believer never doubts the fact that God is the Most Just and the Most Wise; therefore, all His rules are aimed at benefitting us in our day-to-day needs, whether physical, emotional or spiritual. Only God knows how the people He created can live successfully in this world and get prepared for life after death. It is never permitted for a Muslim to eat Pork no matter the situation, except on very rare occasions when the person's life depends on the pork. During dire necessities, it is permitted to eat prohibited things.
