They are a huge continent, which means lots of resources. They have the people to work with too. They shouldn’t be in poverty for so long. What caused the poverty in Africa? All the diseases are spreading I constantly heard about? Terrible government? Civil war and religion disputes? Or just of education? They have everything they need to be an economic powerhouse, so what gives?

Why is Africa so poor?  People try to survive so much that they neglect the basic factor that continues the poverty trend, that is, the lack of education. So education on hygiene habits could help to reduce illness, the right knowledge on agriculture could increase crops and ensure food for the hungry. With education, people could fend for themselves too, since they could decide what is best for them, instead of relying solely on international aid and the government. The people stand less chance on being exploited as well. The more knowledge one has, the more power he holds since he knows how to handle the situation the best.

Fighting against poverty should always start with education. Learning skills of trade allows African people to work better with the resources they have, in the future solving all the problems with the right solution. Higher education should not be forgotten too. Africa is already losing in ICTs education and access. They need experts who can bring in the knowledge to the less fortunate. The educated are the bridge towards alleviating the poor. Education raises the productivity and thus spurs development.
